What Makes You Different
Part Six

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I walked into the tavern and saw a few men that looked like they had just come from work. They had to be in construction or something like that. I walked up to the bar and asked the bartender, "Where can I find the person in charge here?"

"You got him."

"Oh, well, what's your name?"

"Bill, Bill Jacobs."

"Well, Bill, is there a chance I can go back into your kitchen?"

"Uh, for what sir?"

"The name's Nick. I want to surprise my girlfriend, she doesnt know I'm here."

"Well, since were not really busy right now, I guess. How is it?"

"What do you mean?"

"Going out with a deaf girl?"

"There's much more to her than that. By the way, thanks for hiring her. She's always wanted a job, to be independent."

"Well, she's doing the best she can I guess. We really needed help, otherwise, I hate to say it, but she probably wouldn't be working here."

"Has she done anything wrong?"

"No, its just that, that's all she can do. She cant take orders or anything."

"Well, isn't her posistion as a cook?"

"Yes, but usually our cooks are waitresses too."

"Well, I guess you have a full time cook then. I noticed Alex coming from the kitchen, she hadn't noticed me yet. "Shut up about it now, she can read lips." The guy
walked back to what he was doing and I hid under the counter. She walked by me with a rag in her hand to go wipe off a table. She still hadnt saw me. She walked by and I stood up. She started to wipe of the table. I walked up behind her on her right side and tapped
her on the left shoulder. She did a near 360 and she saw me. I'll never forget the look on her face. We kissed.

'I didnt expect you until later,' she signed.

'I wanted to surprise you.' She smiled and we kissed again.

'Well, can I get you anything?'

'Just a.....Coke.'

'Sure thing.' She gave me the cold beverage.

'Do you like working here?'

'It's ok. Its a job. Nothing neat, but as long as I get my paycheck, Im happy.'

I laughed. 'Are you sure you don't want to reconcider coming with me?'

'I told you already. I finally got a job, I don't want to lose it.'

'Guess I'll never change your mind, will I?'

'Nope.' A few minutes later, the place started getting busy. 'I'd better get back to work.'

'How much do I owe you?'

'It's on the house.'

'Thanks babe. I love you.'

'I love you too, honey.' I got up, kissed her, then left. As long as she was happy, that's all that really mattered to me.

'Ahhh, finished packing,' I thought to myself as I closed the last suitcase. Alex should be over any minute now. I looked at the computer screen to see if she was trying to contact me. That was our telephone. By now, everyone knew that if they wanted to talk to me, use instant messenger. My phone would be busy. I really should get a second line. I heard the doorbell ring. It had to be her. I was thinking about giving her a key, but
if I was going to be gone, I didnt really want anyone in my house. I answered the door. Before I could even see who it was, they planted a passionate kiss on my lips. I could tell it was Alex. I dont know what it is, but there's always something different about your girlfriend's kiss and any other girl. I think that it's so much better is because you know they really mean it. They aren't faking it by any means.

'Nice to see you too,' I signed after she had pulled back. She just smiled.

'Need help packing?'

'Actually, I just got done. You can help me carry if you want.'

'Sure, why not?' We went upstairs and I logged off of my computer and unpluged it from the wall socket. 'I'm going to take my laptop with me so I can talk to you all the
time.'

'Good, you better talk to me!'

'Don't worry. Here, I wrote down all the guys e-mail addresses so you can add them. If one of them is on and you need to get ahold of me, just ask one of them to get
me. Or you can just chat with them too. I also included Leighanne's, Kirstin's, and Amanda's. Sometimes Brian, Kev, and A.J. chat on their names.'

'Did you tell them you gave them to me?'

'Yes, I did.'

'Just wondering.'

'I'm going to miss you so much!'

'Me too. It seems like we just met yesterday and you're already leaving.' I felt tears surfacing on my cheeks and wrapped my arms around her. No one had touched me as much as she had. There was something so special about her that I never wanted to let go of. We let go and we both wiped the tears from our eyes. 'I'll help you load up.' We each took two trips of 3 bags to my car. It filled the trunk and back seat.

'Come ride along with me.'

'I'd just breakdown when we get there. Trust me, you wouldnt want to see it.'

'Please!' I pleaded.

'No. Believe me, I want to. It'd just be too hard. You'd better go without me.'

'If that's what you want, it's fine with me. As long as you're happy.'

'I'd be happy if you didn't have to leave.'

'I kind of cant help that one, sorry.'

'I know. I just hate good-byes.'

'It's not good-bye. Its just, see you in less than three months.'

'Three months is a long time.'

'I know, baby. Come visit me sometime ok?'

'I'll try as hard as I can, believe me.'

My watch beeped. I had set it to make sure I left by the time it went off. 'I got to go.'

We kissed. 'See you.'

'Take care of yourself now. Don't get into any trouble while I'm gone.'

'What will you do if I do?'

'You'll find out.' I sighed. 'Well, see you.' I got into my car and shut the door. She blew me a kiss. I blew one back. I started the engine, put on my seat belt, and drove as slow as I could by her. I just wish she couldve been coming with me.
