Chapter Thirteen: Leavin' On A Jet Plane (Don't Know When I'll Be Back Again)

"I can't believe you're leaving already," Natalie said to Brian as she was helping him pack the next day.

"I know. I didn't really want to leave yet either, I should say, leave you this early."

"Awww....youre gonna make me cry," she said with a sniffle. She gave him a hug and he kissed her back.

"I love you."

"I love you too." They stared into each others eyes for a moment and went back to packing. "Is that about everything then?"

"I think so," he said putting the last article of clothing into the suitcase. "Help me carry these down?"

"Yep." She grabbed two suitcases and he did the same. They slowly walked down the staircase.

"Is that everything kids?"

"There's one more upstairs, dad."

"I'll get it." He went upstairs and came down with the last suitcase. "Come on Jackie, let's help them load these in the car." She nodded and took the box of tissues
sitting next to her. She wouldn't be the only one needing them.

Harold Sr. locked the door and Natalie, Brian, Jackie and him got into their Explorer and took off for the airport. It was quite a silent ride there. No one wanted to say good-bye.

"Gate 23 is now boarding. Gate 23 is now boarding."

"That's you Brian,'' Harold said.

"This is it," he said.

"I'm gonna miss you baby," his mom said.

"I'll miss you too mom." He gave her a big hug. He moved down the line to his dad. "Dad, you made the right decision. I won't let you down."

"I know, son. I know." He gave him a hug.

"Natalie," he said turning his attention toward her. "You're sure you dont want to come?"

"I want to, but I'm sure I cant come. I'm gonna miss you so much!" Tears came rolling down her cheeks as she hugged him tight and never wanted to let go.

"I'm gonna miss you too. I'm gonna call you everyday. And you're gonna call me everyday, and we'll make things work." She nodded, still holding on. He slightly pushed her back and pulled them apart. "Everything's going to be okay."

"I know." They kissed.

"Last call for Gate 23. Last call for Gate 23, flight to Orlando."

"I've gotta go."

"I'll be seeing you."

"See ya." He walked into the gate door still holding her hand. They broke apart and he walked backwards toward the airplane. He wanted every glimpse of her he could. 'I hope I made the right decision,' he told himself...over and over.

They drove back to their house, Natalie and Jackie using every last Kleenex in the box. "I miss him," Jackie said silently.

"Me too honey, me too," Harold replied. "Are you okay Natalie?"

"No, I'm not okay. I don't know if I can ever be okay."

"Natalie, you're gonna be okay. We're all gonna be okay." Coming from Harold, she figured he had to be right.

"Hello?" Natalie answered the phone in her secluded little dungeon, she now called her apartment.

"Hi honey, I miss you."

"I miss you too Brian. How is Florida life?"

"Bout the same. It's been pretty good seeing Kevin again though."

"How'd your audition go?"

"I'm in the band."

"Congrats babe. My boyfriend the superstar."

He laughed. "Not yet anyway. We get to go into a studio tomorrow, work on our harmonies."

"Wow."

"Yeah. I can't wait until we get a gig booked. This is going to be so much fun. Well, the dancings kinda hard, but once I learn it it'll be okay."

"Yeah, you're in good shape, it shouldn't be that hard."

"That's what I figured. There's only one thing that could make this better."

"What's that?"

"You."

"Awww.....stop it! You make me cry! I dont cry, damn it, I dont!" she said laughing.

"You still sure you can't come here."

"The minute I can I'll be on your doorstep. Where are you anyway?"

"At me, Kev, and Howie's apartment."

"Howie is..."

"A guy in the band. All the guys are real great. Howie is a year older than me and Alex and Nick are younger. In fact, quite a bit younger. Alex is 16 and Nick is 13."

"Whoa, and your parents had a hard time letting you go, imagine what his parents had to go through, letting their 13 year old leave to join a band."

"Yeah, well, I gotta go, the guys are taking me out to supper for a congratulatory meal."

"Well, that's nice of them. I'll let you go then."

"Yep. Bye."

"Bye, I love you."

"I love you too." They hung up. It was going to be a long summer. They had talked about everything they were going to do together after he was done with school,
now this happened. Of course she was happy for him, but she missed him. If only they couldn't be here, or she be there.
